RecyClass certifies over half of Europe’s plastic recycling capacity

RecyClass certifies over half…

RecyClass reports that its Recycling Process Certification now covers 60% of Europe’s installed plastics recycling capacity. Launched three years ago, the scheme has become a leading reference for plastics traceability across the region, providing audited verification of recycling processes in line with EN 15343:2007 and supporting transparent communication on waste origin.

According to the organisation, uptake has accelerated across key material streams. At the stream level, certified shares in 2024 reached 58% for HDPE/PP, 62% for ELV-WEEE, 70% for LDPE and 75% for PET. These shares signal a broad commitment to operate under verified, reliable standards that supply the value chain with high-quality recycled materials.

Paolo Glerean, Chairman of RecyClass, said: "The continued growth of this certification scheme is a clear indicator that RecyClass’ efforts to drive plastics circularity are delivering real impact. RecyClass Recycling Process Certification has become the benchmark for companies seeking to certify their recycling processes and comply with the EN 15343:2007 standard".

Certification infrastructure and legislative context

RecyClass collaborates with 11 accredited and 7 recognised third-party Certification Bodies, amounting to more than 120 auditors available to issue Recycling Process Certificates. In view of the legislative targets for recycled plastics outlined in the Single-Use Plastic Directive and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, recyclers seeking to demonstrate the traceability of their operations and ensure transparent communication of the origin of plastic waste are encouraged to apply for certification.
