New packagings will protect flowers

New packagings will protect… Storage and transportation of flowers is a great challenge for plant producers. In both situations it is difficult to avoid the losses, which can reach up to 30%.

Therefore packaging producers with collaboration with scientists and flower producers decided to invent new ecological packaging dedicated for flowers, which both minimalise the loss regarded the transportation and storage and provide the maximum protection and prolong life of products.

To solve these problems a new scientific project has been launched - SmartFlowerPack. The aim of the project is to develop intelligent and active packaging which matching the needs of the producers and available for small and medium companies.

The designed project will be tested for transport and storage purposes. All the stages of the project are arranged basing on the information from the companies involved.

Project will doubtless draw attention of the companies linked with the paper and packaging industry as well as the smart and active packaging producers. The results will raise the interest of the flower producers and distributors.

SmartFlowerPack is an international initiative, realized by Wereld van Papier (Netherlands), Kenniscentrum Papier en Karton (Netherlands), West Pomeranian Chemical Cluster "Green Chemistry" (Poland) and Center of Bioimmobilisation and Innovative Packaging Materials (West Pomeranianian University of Technology, Szczecin, Poland).

Project is a part of CORNET initiative (COllective Research NETworking) and is funded by Polish National Centre of Research and Development. It will be finished until the end of 2014.
