Arburg welcomes 2,000th apprentice

With a well-founded apprenticeship programme that has been awarded three certifications, Arburg has been making sustained investments in its future for over 70 years. This year, the Lossburg-based machine manufacturer is celebrating a very special milestone – the recruitment of its 2,000th apprentice, Michael Gross. The budding engineering technician started his apprenticeship at Arburg on 1 September 2020 alongside a further 69 apprentices and students from Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW).

Managing Partner Renate Keinath, who is responsible for Human Resources Management, warmly welcomed the new apprentices and students to the company on behalf of the Partners, Managing Directors, the entire apprenticeship team and all the employees.

2,000th apprentice at Arburg

There was no mistaking the apprentices’ excitement at the prospect of their time at Arburg. The same could also be said for Michael Gross, who had the unexpected honour of receiving a special present to mark the start of his apprenticeship as an engineering technician. “As the 2,000th apprentice to start their career with us, we have reached a new milestone in our apprenticeship programme, which has now been running for more than 70 years. This is something that we are especially proud of,” exclaims the Partner.

Apprenticeships continue unabated

“We are continuing our apprenticeships unabated and enabling the 70 new apprentices and DHBW students we have taken on in 2020 to embark on a successful start to their working lives,” said Renate Keinath. She added that the availability of apprenticeships isn’t something that can be taken for granted in the times of coronavirus and the associated difficult economic situation, as many other companies have discovered. The fact that Arburg takes on almost all of its apprentices and students each year as permanent employees is the result of careful strategic planning. While other companies have withdrawn apprenticeships, Arburg is planning to offer even more in 2021.

Triple-certified training quality

Renate Keinath went on to explain that well-trained employees with broad expertise are essential to ensuring the competitiveness of a global company and emphasised the high-quality apprenticeships on offer at Arburg: “You will be the ones who deploy your know-how to drive our company forwards in future! We are committed to providing you with superb professional training. The 261 apprentices and students currently working for us clearly underline the high value we place on apprenticeships.” This commitment is also demonstrated by the fact that Arburg became the first Baden-Wuerttemberg-based company offering apprenticeships to hold three quality certifications when it received its most recent accolade at the start of 2018. The huge Education Center, which covers 2,000 square metres, and the 14-strong team of instructors led by Head of Apprenticeships Michael Vieth provide the ideal conditions for learning.

An exciting induction week to help the new recruits find their feet

In order to ensure a smooth transition from theory-based school teaching to the real world of work, the young people can look forward to an exciting induction week with a varied programme – all following the company’s hygiene requirements of course. The aim is for them to get to know each other and also to become familiar with the company and its products. To this end, Head of Apprenticeships Michael Vieth and his team of instructors organised team-building events and a barbecue. In addition to safety instruction, apprentices were given a detailed tour of the plant, enabling them to get to know the Arburg product portfolio and introducing them to the various departments.

Applications for 2021 apprenticeships now open

In order to continue the company’s success story, Arburg is already looking for enthusiastic and committed young people to join its next apprenticeship programme, which will start in September 2021.
