Sacmi to present digital cap and preform line at Drink Japan

Sacmi to present digital cap…

Sacmi will showcase an integrated production set-up for beverage caps and PET preforms at Drink Japan 2025, combining recently introduced CCM64MD cap presses with the IPS400D preform press. The display focuses on line-wide digital control, cloud-enabled monitoring and artificial vision systems to support stable performance, process transparency and predictive maintenance. The company also plans to highlight product development and advisory capabilities provided by its Rigid Packaging Lab, including cap and preform co-design and recycling-oriented projects. Visitors will find Sacmi in hall 9, stand 3-16, at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo from 3 to 5 December 2025.

The proposed line architecture integrates hardware and software across machines to enable real-time parameter supervision, diagnostics and data sharing. According to Sacmi, the approach targets high productivity and efficiency by coordinating press operation with condition monitoring and automatic quality controls. In addition to equipment, the offer includes cloud-based services for remote support and data analysis, as well as design support for packaging systems. The Lab’s scope spans performance optimization, light-weighting and recyclability, with options tailored to tethered and non-tethered closures.

Digitalized line controls and diagnostics

The line can be equipped with Smartpack, a machine-integrated hardware and software kit intended to increase flexibility and precision of in-process adjustments. The system monitors key parameters such as pellet insertion, hydraulic oil condition, the mold cooling mixture and the operation of both the hydraulic and temperature control subsystems. Data are made available in a Control Room for real-time oversight. By signaling process drifts, Smartpack is designed to support preventive actions, reduce waste and help maintain machine and mold efficiency over time.

Complementing this, Smartcare provides monitoring and predictive insights via cloud-based sharing of operating data with Sacmi assistance. The service is aimed at performance tracking, diagnostics and maintenance planning, using machine data to flag anomalies and support timely interventions across the installed base.

Integrated cap and preform design, plus recycling initiatives

Beyond equipment, the Rigid Packaging Lab offers product development and design services that align cap and preform specifications. The Lab references a range of 26/22 mm neck and cap formats in tethered and non-tethered versions, targeting reductions in overall system weight and the use of virgin plastics while preserving functionality and consumer handling. Support covers feasibility, prototyping and optimization to meet defined performance targets.

The Lab is also engaged in recycling-oriented development. The Purecap project aims to enable caps manufactured from recycled HDPE by establishing the process and material guidelines required for consistent results. Within this framework, Sacmi provides product design, development and a production recipe intended to meet the aesthetic and functional specifications adopted by major brand owners.

Vision systems and AI

Sacmi plans to present artificial vision solutions that combine traditional quality controls with AI-based functions. A recent addition is PVS Robot, an off-line system for automatic preform inspection. Vision platforms can be integrated with the Classy AI interface to enable automatic defect classification, support operator training and provide access to real-time and historical process data.

Service and event details

The offering is supported by software and control solutions aimed at simplifying machine management and maintaining production consistency, alongside 24/7 operational support provided through the company’s global network. Sacmi will exhibit in hall 9, stand 3-16, at Drink Japan 2025, taking place at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo from 3 to 5 December.
