Coveris has SBTi-approved targets through 2033

Coveris has SBTi-approved…

Coveris has received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. The company indicates that the decision confirms its approach to data-driven climate action and aligns with its No Waste vision, linked to a shift toward circularity in packaging.

The approved targets cover absolute emissions reductions through 2033, using 2023 as the base year. Coveris S.A. commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 54.6% by 2033. At the same time, the company commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 32.5% within the same timeframe.

According to the statement, these targets align with the SBTi trajectory to limit global warming to well-below 2°C compared with pre-industrial levels. As described by SBTi, this level of emissions reduction is associated with reducing the risk of the most severe effects of climate change.

The announcement includes a statement from a Coveris representative: "This validation reinforces our responsibility to act now across all scopes. It highlights the importance of data-led decisions in building a circular future for packaging. Our No Waste vision goes hand in hand with measurable climate action." The quote is attributed to Fiene Száki, Group Sustainability Director at Coveris.

To support delivery of the targets, Coveris is implementing a group-wide transition plan. It is intended to cover actions at different levels, from operational efficiency improvements and renewable energy sourcing to value chain collaboration and product innovation.

The company emphasizes that it is joining a growing number of businesses with SBTi-approved targets, and that the commitments are intended to translate into a significant reduction in emissions and a targeted contribution to climate action.
