Arburg exits 3D printing business

Arburg has announced that it will exit the additive manufacturing segment at the end of 2025. This means ARBURGadditive will cease operations on 31 December 2025. The company states that existing customers and users of the Freeformer system will continue to receive full service support and access to spare parts.

– This decision was made after a thorough analysis of the current market situation and economic conditions – explains Dr Armin Schmiedeberg, chairman of Arburg’s advisory board. – Although the Freeformer system and Arburg Plastic Freeforming (APF) technology attracted strong interest following their launch at K 2013, the planned financial targets were not achieved in the longer term, and the global 3D printing market did not develop as forecast. Current economic conditions require us to focus fully on our core business, the manufacture of injection molding machines.

Existing customers can continue to rely on the brand promise „Wir sind da.” – Arburg will provide service and spare parts deliveries for operating Freeformer machines, but will no longer participate in trade fairs and industry events related to 3D printing.

Around 40 ARBURGadditive employees previously working in sales, development, application engineering and assembly will be offered the opportunity to transfer directly into Arburg’s organization. The company emphasizes that customers will continue to have access to support from experienced experts.

In ARBURGadditive’s portfolio, alongside the Freeformer for producing functional components from standard thermoplastic and elastomer pellets, there were also filament and silicone 3D printers manufactured by subsidiary innovatiQ GmbH + Co KG of Feldkirchen near Munich.
