GreenDot and osapiens have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at bringing to market an integrated digital solution for packaging Extended Producer Responsibility, EPR, compliance in Europe. The joint offering combines GreenDot's expertise in EPR regulatory compliance, packaging licensing and producer responsibility schemes across European markets with the osapiens HUB platform, developed by osapiens using AI tools. According to the companies, this is intended to be the first integrated platform designed to simplify, scale and reduce the cost of EPR and PPWR reporting across all European Union markets. The background to this cooperation is the new PPWR on packaging and packaging waste, which tightens requirements related to packaging design and recycling. At the same time, individual European countries continue to maintain their own registration and reporting systems, which means growing complexity of administrative obligations for companies operating across borders.
The partners indicate that the jointly developed solution operates on the osapiens HUB platform and connects directly to a company's existing business software. The system pulls key packaging data such as material type, weight and recyclability. On this basis, it automatically determines a company's obligations in individual European countries and is also intended to help achieve an optimal tariff structure across European markets. A significant challenge remains the fact that packaging data is often held by suppliers rather than by the companies placing products on the market. The platform uses AI-assisted workflows and supplier collaboration tools to collect, verify and update this data, replacing slower manual processes.
Scope of the solution and the role of PPWR
As stated, the platform also connects directly to national registration systems and EPR schemes via interfaces, which is intended to support companies in handling the growing number of national reporting obligations resulting from the PPWR. In the assessment of GreenDot and osapiens, the combination of regulatory expertise, scalable digital infrastructure and automated workflows is expected to respond to the needs of international producers seeking tools to manage compliance amid expanding legal requirements in Europe.
Statements from company representatives
Laurent Auguste, CEO of GreenDot, said: "Companies are increasingly concerned about the complexity and cost of administering EPR compliance under the PPWR. Making the circular economy a reality at scale requires better material tracking and greater transparency, but it is equally important to strive to make every step of the value chain more competitive and optimised. Together with osapiens, we are bringing to market the smart digital solution the industry has been calling for. It provides a simple one-stop-shop solution for EPR reporting across Europe and enables compliance management in a much more cost-effective, efficient and scalable way."
Stefan Wawrzinek, co-founder and chairman of osapiens, added: "EPR compliance under the PPWR is becoming one of the most complex cross-border challenges for producers and brand owners across Europe. Together with GreenDot, we are combining the regulatory depth and market reach required to meet this challenge with AI-powered platform infrastructure to solve it at scale, giving companies the solution they need to manage this complexity efficiently and with confidence."
The companies emphasise that the partnership is part of the development of solutions supporting businesses in adapting to the principles of the circular economy in Europe.
