Herbold Meckesheim to present recycling systems at K 2025

Herbold Meckesheim to present…

Herbold Meckesheim, a brand of Coperion, will present new and updated modules for mechanical plastics recycling at K 2025 in Dusseldorf. Building on the company’s experience in modular system solutions for size reduction, washing, separation, drying and agglomeration, Herbold engineers highly automated plants tailored to post-consumer and industrial waste streams. At hall 9, booth 9B34, the company will display the high-capacity Mechanical Dryer T 150-300 and the latest SMS granulator variant. In the open area FG/CE07, Coperion and Herbold will also operate a hydrocyclone separation stage together with a Coperion ZSK FilCo filtration compounder, illustrating how interlocked preparation and compounding steps can be combined. The exhibits focus on throughput, process stability and recyclate quality for applications including film and rigid plastics, with an emphasis on efficient plant operation and consistent output. Visitors can additionally find Coperion’s compounding solutions in hall 14, booth 14B19.

Mechanical dryer T 150-300: step forward in drying technology

The Mechanical Dryer T 150-300 is a high-capacity unit designed for large-scale drying tasks. It achieves throughputs up to 2.5 t/h of film and more than 10 t/h of PET or rigid flakes. The design features a fully redesigned construction with a rotating sieve basket equipped with integrated water spray nozzles for full-coverage cleaning, and a centrifugal drying chamber for rapid moisture removal. For maintenance accessibility, the dryer includes a hydraulically hinged housing, and it is prepared for advanced monitoring that supports predictive maintenance. The configuration is intended for demanding workflows, particularly film processing, where consistent surface cleanliness and high drying efficiency are required.

SMS 80-200 granulator: high-performance efficiency

Herbold will also show the next model in the SMS granulator series. The SMS 80-200 is built for demanding applications and incorporates energy-efficient double cross-cutting action. Pre-adjustable rotor and bed knives support production of high-quality regrind with minimal fines and consistent particle size distribution. The machine emphasizes ease of maintenance with a hinged housing and a quick knife change system, measures that help reduce downtime and operating costs. As the largest model in the series, its robust construction and forced feeding via three horizontally mounted screws enable high throughput of PET and rigid plastics. The SMS series is optimized for a wide range of materials and is suitable for standard recycling tasks as well as challenging feeds such as heavy lumps, tough fibers, thin films or large volumes of material.

Hydrocyclone stage with filtration compounder: integrated separation and compounding

At the Coperion and Herbold recycling pavilion in the open area FG/CE07, a Herbold hydrocyclone separation stage will be presented together with a Coperion ZSK FilCo filtration compounder. The hydrocyclone stage provides density-based separation using centrifugal forces and offers additional washing capability for efficient impurity removal. In suitable configurations, the system can separate residual contaminants such as sand, glass or metals using heavy medium cyclone technology combined with high-turbulence washing. A friction washer can remove paper and other fiber contaminants. Paired with Coperion’s ZSK FilCo system, which combines filtration and compounding in a single production step, the setup demonstrates a continuous route to high-quality recyclates for PET and other highly contaminated polymer streams, meeting stringent end-product quality requirements.
