PolyOne GLS Expands Versalloy HC Portfolio

PolyOne GLS Expands Versalloy… PolyOne GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers , a global leader in high-performance, custom-formulated thermoplastic elastomer solutions, has announced the addition of three new materials to its Versalloy™ HC TPV (thermoplastic vulcanizate) alloy offering: Versalloy™ HC 9220-70, Versalloy™ HC 9220-80, and Versalloy™ HC 9220-90.

“These TPVs precisely combine the performance of thermosets with the processing advantages of thermoplastics,” said Rick Noller, director of marketing, PolyOne GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers. “With these offerings, we can help customers maintain or improve performance with custom-made solutions that further differentiate their products from competitors.”

Made with Santoprene™ TPV, these new materials offer customers outstanding performance coupled with thermoplastic processing advantages for operational efficiencies that include lower scrap rates and reduced energy usage.

The alloys provide outstanding flex-life properties, fluids compatibility and wet-grip performance. Featuring low extractables, they are also formulated without latex, and are manufactured at PolyOne GLS sites meeting the ISO 13485 medical quality standards and conform to FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

These new materials, with Shore A hardnesses of 70, 80 and 93, are drop-in replacements for a limited number of medical TPV polymers that ExxonMobil Chemical Company will decommercialize by December 31, 2012. The grades, for sale in the Americas and Europe, are currently available for testing, evaluation and qualification.

To develop these materials, PolyOne GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers entered into an exclusive agreement with ExxonMobil Chemical Company in 2010. The newest Versalloy™ HC grades are a recent addition to three TPV healthcare formulations introduced in the first quarter of 2011.

Versalloy™ HC TPV alloys can be extruded, injection molded and blow molded, and are available in uniform, natural, free-flowing pellets, which can be pre-colored or otherwise tailored to meet application needs. Potential applications include peristaltic pump tubing, stoppers for vials and collection tubes, device handles, ergonomic soft-grip assemblies, and seals, shields, tips and caps.

As with all TPEs supplied by PolyOne GLS, customers can access a full range of technical support and services. “With a world class global product support infrastructure and dedicated research and development and manufacturing resources on three continents, we have the commitment and experience that customers rely on,” Noller said.
