Velox extends its distribution activities for Topas Advanced Polymers

Velox extends its distribution… Velox announced its extended distribution partnership with Topas Advanced Polymers, effective of April 1. Velox will be distributing Topas COC and Topasblend series in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Topas Cyclic Olefin Copolymers (COC) are a new class of polymers with a property profile which can be varied over a wide range. In contrast to the semi- crystalline polyolefins PE and PP, Topas are amorphous, transparent copolymers. The unique property profile of these copolymers include low density, high transparency, excellent water vapour barrier properties, low water absorption, high rigidity, strength, and hardness, low birefringence, variable heat deflection temperature (HDT/B) up to 170°C, excellent biocompatibility as well as very good resistance to acids and alkalis. Thus Topas copolymers are of particular interest for primary packaging of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostic disposables. Topas grades can be sterilised by gamma rays as well as electron beams and ethylene oxide. The steam sterilisation can be possible for Topas grades with corresponding higher softening point. Topasblend resins offer the benefits of polyolefins plus the high heat resistance of engineering plastics and can be considered for applications with multiple steam sterilisations

Topas Advanced Polymers is the world’s leading maker of COC (cyclic olefin copolymer), a glass-clear plastic for healthcare, optics, packaging, and electronics applications. From insulin delivery, to food contact films, to tablet and smartphone displays, Topas COC is the high performance material of choice. The broad global regulatory compliance of Topas COC can make your next development a simpler task.

Topas Advanced Polymers also supplies the chemical raw material norbornene. A joint venture of Daicel Corporation and Polyplastics Co., Ltd., the company is headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, with a U.S. subsidiary in Florence, Ky. It operates the world's largest COC plant in Oberhausen, Germany.

Topas is a registered trademark of Topas Advanced Polymers for its family of cyclic olefin copolymer resins.
