Resource-conserving and cost-effective extrusion solutions from KraussMaffei

Resource-conserving and cost-effective… Italian processors are also increasingly focusing on cost-effectiveness and resource conservation in their investment decisions.

KraussMaffei Berstorff is ideally equipped to cope with these demands and will therefore show its customers intelligent solution concepts at Plast Milan. These concepts will include, for example, the QuickSwitch system for inline dimension change without interruption along with systems for cross-linking PO pipes.

"In the last few years we have gained a reputation with our special solutions on a keenly contested Italian market, primarily with the long-proven and successfully utilized QuickSwitch technology. We are increasing cost-effectiveness here in the application by combining it with our highly efficient internal pipe cooling system", said Andreas Kessler, General Sales Manager at KraussMaffei Berstorff in Munich.

"The processor is therefore becoming even more competitive: firstly, through the enormous reduction in material, storage and labor costs; secondly, he saves investment costs on account of a reduction of up to 40% in the cooling zone in the IPC system", added Kessler. The QuickSwitch system is also available immediately with an "allin- one control unit". The QuickSwitch functionalities, which were regulated to date via a separate control unit, are now integrated in an overriding C5 system control unit. The customer benefits from many advantages, for example a standard operating philosophy, standard hardware, flexible expandability or simple updates. Existing systems fitted with a C4 control unit can also easily be upgraded. "We are therefore demonstrating solution expertise with proven value", said Kessler.

Complete system concepts for processing premium quality materials by means of excellent system engineering are meeting with a positive response, especially among Italian customers. "In PO pipe extrusion we offer producers a complete line concept for inline cross-linking of polyethylene pipes", emphasized Kessler.

The system technology from KraussMaffei Berstorff - from a conical twin-screw extruder and a pipe head through to calibration technology - is ideally matched to processing of a finished compound and ensures reliable and constant process conditions. The end product features superb quality together with a constantly high level of cross-linking. Cross-linking takes place in the economical inline process in an infrared oven. This eliminates the need for another production step.

The processor therefore saves space, working time and handling and transport costs. There is great demand for peroxide cross-linked pipes in applications involving the supply of hot water, drinking water and gas or in radiator heating. KraussMaffei Berstorff is now already receiving an increasing number of inquiries from Italian customers.
